The Village of Akron has its own municipal electric service. The Village is a member of the Municipal Electric Utilities Association (MEUA). The New York State Public Service Commission regulates us. See www.municipalelectric.org for more information about the MEUA.

The Akron Electric System is franchised to provide electric service within Village limits and a few historical customers (e.g. the Akron Airport). New customers outside of Village limits are not accepted.

Current electric rates are as follows (Effective Date December 1, 2017):

  • Residential (Service Classification No. 1)
    $.0246 per kWh with a $2.29 monthly customer charge
  • Small Commercial (Service Classification No. 2)
    $.0291 per kWh with a $2.29 monthly customer charge
  • Large Commercial (Service Classification No. 3)
    $.0198 per kWh with a $1.91 per kW demand charge and a $1.91 monthly customer charge
  • Industrial (Service Classification No. 4)
    $.0191 per kWh with a $2.91 per kW demand charge and a $23.87 minimum monthly charge
  • Security Lighting (Service Classification No. 5)
    100 watt high pressure sodium unit: $5.97
    150 watt high pressure sodium unit: $7.81
    250 watt high pressure sodium unit: $9.15
    400 watt high pressure sodium unit: $17.12

There is also a Purchase Power Adjustment (PPA) charge applied monthly, based upon kWh usage. 

Electric bills sent on a monthly basis and mailed out the last working day of each month and are due the 20th of the following month.

For new customers, there is a deposit of $35.00, for non-electric heating customers and $75.00 for electric heating customers.
