Please be aware that the Village of Akron Hall Front Entrance Project will begin on Monday, October 15, 2018. Please note that the front of the building will be off limits and payments can be made using the rear entrance. The project should be complete within 6 weeks. Thank your for your cooperation during this time.
It is that time of year again for the Joint Village of Akron/Town of Newstead Household Hazardous Waste/Electronic Recycling/Shredding Event scheduled for Saturday October 6, 2018 from 9:00 am - noon located at the Joint DPW garages at 12707 Clarence Center Road. Remember this event is open to Village of Akron and Town of Newstead Residents Only. Also, don't forget to bring your CRT(TV) permit if you are recycling any old TV's. Hope to see you there.
Please note that the Village of Akron/Town of Newstead compost site will be closed this Saturday September 1, 2018 due to the Holiday weekend.
Due to a broken valve in the water distribution system on Tuesday morning, residents of the Village will experience discolored water. The water has been tested and been found free from bacteria and other contaminants.
Hydrant flushing is being used to move the discolored water from the pipes, and results are already starting to show in some residences. As hydrants are systematically opened, different areas of the Village may experience the discolored water where there had not been any earlier.
Please note that the US Dept. of Agriculture will be placing traps in the trees throughout the Village and Town to do a study on the invasive European Cherry Fruit Fly. The traps are harmless to humans and animals and will be removed in the fall. For more information, please see the brochure below:

A Public Hearing is scheduled for July 11, 2018 at 7 pm at the Village Hall located at 21 Main Street to hear any comments regarding the Joint Comprehensive Master Plan.
