Baskin Highlights Small Business Owners in District for National Small Business Week

This year, National Small Business Week is being recognized April 29 – May 5, and Erie County Legislature Majority Leader April Baskin is marking the occasion with a series of videos on her Facebook page.

Erie County Observes All Women’s Equal Pay Day with Support for a State Ban on Wage-History Discrimination

Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz today joined Erie County Legislature Majority Leader April N. M. Baskin, Legislator Barbara Miller-Williams and Karen L. King, PhD., Executive Director of the Erie County Commission on the Status of Women (“ECCSW”), to mark All Women’s Equal Pay Day. On average, women make .89 cents for every dollar made by a man. This gap increases among minority groups, and is compounded over the course of a woman’s working life.

Majority Leader April Baskin Participates In Meals on Wheels for Western New York's “Champions for Meals” Week

Erie County Legislature Majority Leader April Baskin participated in Meals on Wheels for Western New York, delivering meals to residents in need. The organization serves meals to more than 3,400 homebound clients each year, helping the frail and ill elderly or disabled enjoy the highest level of independence possible.

Majority Leader April Baskin Supports Buffalo Home Care Workers

Baskin joined Home Care Workers and Healthcare Workers Rising and marched through the streets of Buffalo on Wednesday to declare they are “Invisible No More.” Rallying to bring attention to the troubling state of home care, Legislator Baskin expressed her support for the healthcare providers’ demands for fair wages, benefits and work schedules.

Majority Leader April Baskin Celebrates Opening of Lofts at University Heights

Erie County Majority Leader April N. M. Baskin proudly participated in today’s ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Lofts at University Heights. She joined Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown, State Senator Tim Kennedy, and City of Buffalo Councilman Rasheed Wyatt and representatives from project developer CB Emmanuel, LLC, at the opening of the new residential apartment complex.

Majority Leader April Baskin to Focus on Bail Reform as First Part of Public Safety Initiative

Erie County Majority Leader April N. M. Baskin launched her ongoing Public Safety campaign today, beginning with a focus on the issue of bail reform for nonviolent misdemeanor offenses.  Legislator Baskin introduced a resolution outlining her support of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo’s aim to eliminate cash bail for minor, non-violent crimes. The subject will also be the focus of the legislator’s first Public Safety Roundtable, which will take place in March.
