Legislator Burke Calls on the Erie County Fiscal Stability Authority to Downsize

ERIE COUNTY, NY- This past week Erie County Legislator Patrick Burke (7th District) introduced a resolution to reduce the size of the Erie County Fiscal Stability Authority, an entity formed in 2005 as a response to the “Red-Green” budget crisis. The ECFSA’s main goals include improving the fiscal health of Erie County and reducing the burden felt by taxpayers. In 2009 following significant progress the ECFSA transitioned from a “hard” control board into a “soft” board with an advisory role, relinquishing the majority of their authority over the County budget.

“The Erie County Control Board played a crucial part in improving the financial health of the county and minimizing burden felt by the taxpayers following the ‘Red-Green’ budget, but as Erie County’s bond rating continues to improve and the local economy becomes increasingly diversified the control board has taken on a purely advisory status” said Legislator Patrick Burke (7th District). “Theirdevolvingrole in county finances should be reflected in a reduction in their size and budget.”

In 2016 the Erie County Fiscal Stability Authority has a budget of $495,000, to continue its sustained goal of reducing the weight on taxpayers, Legislator Burke is urging the Erie County Fiscal Stability Authority to reduce its size and budget to reflect its capacity as an advisory board.
