Applicants sought to serve on Erie County’s Citizens’ Budget Review Commission

Erie County Legislature Chairman John J. Mills announces that the Erie County Legislature is in the process of accepting applications from residents who would like to serve on the Citizens’ Budget Review Commission. The commission provides civilian oversight of the county’s budget and monitors county finances to ensure the long-term fiscal stability of Erie County.

“The commission offers an important level of accountability. Separate from any county office or department, members of the public provide an independent review of the county budget and finances. I believe this is extremely beneficial to the taxpayers as it provides an opportunity for residents to serve in a very vital, hands-on role,” said Chairman Mills.

The Citizen’s Budget Review Commission is comprised of nine (9) members. The County Executive, Chairman of the Legislature, Majority Leader and Minority Leader each have one (1) appointment. A majority of the Legislature approves five (5) additional members. The commission’s guidelines require that appointees represent a variety of industries, offering a balanced approach to budget analysis.

The five (5) Legislature appointments must include: a certified public accountant (CPA), banking/finance professional, an attorney with local government or finance experience, a professional with organized labor experience, an individual from the business community and two members based on recommendations from the public.

Anyone interested in serving on the Citizens’ Budget Review Commission is asked to forward a resume and cover letter to Chairman John Mills, 92 Franklin St., Fourth Floor, Buffalo, NY 14202 or via email at john.mills@erie.gov. The deadline to submit a resume is Tuesday, April 15.
