The Erie County Legislature's Majority Caucus announces that motorists that have a license plate that has peeling paint or de-lamination should take them to the Erie County Auto Bureau to be replaced at no cost in order to avoid being pulled over due to being unreadable. To do this, the vehicle registrant must be present and the defective license plates must be turned in at that time.
This public awareness campaign by Erie County Clerk Jacobs and Sheriff Howard is designed to educate the driving public that a free program at the Erie County Auto Bureau is available to replace the defective license plates and to encourage vehicle owners to get new plates as soon as possible to avoid unnecessary law enforcement encounters.
