Legislature’s Majority Caucus eliminates tax increase as option for balancing county’s future budgets

In a letter to the Erie County Fiscal Stability Authority, the Erie County Legislature’s Majority Caucus – Chairman John Mills, Majority Leader Joseph Lorigo, Legislator Edward Rath, Legislator Kevin Hardwick, Legislator Lynne Dixon and Legislator Ted Morton – stated they will not support a tax increase to balance the county’s future budgets. This was in response to the County Executive’s 2017-2020 Revised Erie County Four Year Financial Plan, which projects deficits in each year.

“The Majority Caucus has concerns with the Revised Four Year Plan and will work with the County Executive and his administration to address those issues. However, we will not support a tax rate increase for residents and businesses as a way to solve the county’s budgetary problems. As we move forward with balancing this budget, the next, and those that follow, we need to find solutions that do not include raising taxes,” said Chairman Mills.
