Legislature approves $26.8 million for road work

The Erie County Legislature’s Majority Caucus announces that more than $26 million in funding has been allocated for work on county roads and bridges this year. While some of the projects still need to go through the bidding process, others that are being handled in-house could begin soon.

“The Legislature expedited the process after receiving the final request from the County Executive to ensure the funding was approved at today’s session. We are already into mid-April and we need to start immediately with as much work as the county needs to complete this year,” said Legislator Edward A. Rath, III, whose committee reviewed the road plan earlier this week in preparation for today’s vote.

The funding will be used to repave and repair roadways throughout Erie County, including major work on Big Tree Road from Route 75 to Bayview in Hamburg and Girdle Road from Clinton to Bullis in Elma. To review a copy of the 2016 Road Project List, please CLICK HERE.

“Road and bridge maintenance is something we must constantly focus on. A safe and reliable infrastructure is critical to our residents, businesses, and schools. While I am pleased to support the funding requested today and am glad we are completing the projects listed, there are still issues that aren’t being addressed that I plan to continue to pursue,” said Chairman John Mills.
