During last week’s session, the Erie County Legislature issued a proclamation in memory of former Erie County Sheriff Tom Higgins, who passed away on June 26, 2018 at the age of 88.

Sheriff Higgins was born in South Buffalo’s Old First Ward and began his 42-year career in law enforcement when he joined the Buffalo Police Department in 1956 before being elected Erie County Sheriff in 1985.

“Sheriff Higgins was a veteran, proud member of law enforcement and a strong presence in our community,” said Legislator Lynne Dixon. “His advocacy for issues important to him and dedication to public service leave a lasting impact on Erie County. On behalf of the Legislature, I extend my sympathies to his friends and family.”
