The Erie County Legislature unanimously passed a resolution urging Governor Cuomo to restore funding to public libraries after his proposal to cut $20 million in library construction aid and $5 million in library state aid.

Legislator John Mills said, “For years, I have proudly donated to our local libraries and supported their fundraising efforts. I continue to be amazed by the resources and technology our libraries provide to people of all ages and the work done by their incredible staff. These cuts are unacceptable, and our resolution calls on the governor to restore this funding in the budget.”

Legislator Ed Rath said, “The governor’s cuts to libraries are shameful. Public libraries are invaluable to the communities we represent and all of New York State. Library staff relies on state funding and resources to continue offering programs to our residents. Without this funding, their budgets are in jeopardy. Governor Cuomo must do the right thing and restore these funds.”

Legislator Joe Lorigo said, “This is the fourth consecutive year Governor Cuomo has cut funding to our public libraries. Libraries often operate on tight budgets to bring us countless educational programs and services. It’s upsetting that the governor continues to propose cuts to vital services and organizations while New Yorkers continue to face high taxes. Our libraries and our communities as a whole deserve better.”

Legislator Frank Todaro said, “It is disappointing that libraries are subjected to these funding cuts once again. Governor Cuomo continues to threaten services taxpayers deserve and depend on. Our libraries are vital to our communities and need financial support from New York State.”
