Following Erie County Legislator Joe Lorigo’s community backpack drive, 30 backpacks were collected and dropped off at the Rural Outreach Center Wednesday afternoon to benefit families in need.

Legislator Lorigo said, “Back-to-school shopping can be both costly and stressful for parents who are already working hard to make ends meet. I would like to thank everyone who donated a backpack to our drive to ensure every child is prepared for the upcoming school year. The generosity of our community is part of what makes it a great place. I am always proud to support Frank and his team at the Rural Outreach Center to help those in need.”

Rural Outreach Center Executive Director Frank Cerny said, “Back-to-school preparations can be a challenge for many because many parents have to take time off during the summer to care for their children. When it comes time to purchase school supplies, budgets are stretched too thin. A nice backpack with school supplies not only relieves some of this financial strain, but also helps children feel cared for and normal. It does take a community.”
