Erie County Legislator Joe Lorigo recently honored the Girl Scouts Troop 30711 from East Aurora as Erie County Legislature’s Citizens of the Month.

Last year, the Girl Scouts in Troop 30711 set-up a ‘Tiny Library’ on South Street to ensure members of the community have access to free literature. When the Covid-19 pandemic first hit, the Troop replaced books with non-perishable groceries to form a ‘Tiny Pantry’. Their goal was to help put food on the table for members of the community who needed it most. Troop members and other volunteers regularly restock The Tiny Pantry.

Troop 30711 Co-leader Julie Benzin said, “We’re very proud of our Girl Scouts for taking the initiative to solve a critical problem, recognizing an innovative solution, and following through to make it happen.  It’s been a pleasure for me and the other parents to watch how much they’ve grown individually and together over the years.”

Legislator Lorigo said, “These young women are doing great things for their community. Their quick thinking and selfless-service means so much to our neighbors struggling due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Thank you so much to the Girl Scouts Troop 30711.  Each member is leaving a lasting impact in East Aurora and the surrounding areas. They all have a very bright future ahead of them.”
