In 2019, Erie County is replacing New Era Field’s turf before the NFL season begins. Legislator Joe Lorigo has submitted a resolution proposing the county auction off pieces of the old turf and donates the funds to charitable organizations that offer athletic services to children with special needs.

“While we are still figuring out the logistics, I believe this is something that could benefit everyone,” said Legislator Lorigo. “Auctioning off the turf would give the many Western New York sports fans the opportunity to take home a piece of the Bills field while supporting a great cause. I look forward to discussing this further with my colleagues in the Legislature and hope we can get this process underway as soon as possible.”

The resolution, which can be viewed here, was referred to the Legislature’s Economic Development Committee for further discussion. If approved, athletic organizations would be subject to an RFP process and legislative approval.
