Erie County Legislator Joe Lorigo attended an Aurora Town Board meeting Wednesday night to surprise Town and Village Historian Robert Goller with a proclamation honoring him as the Legislature’s November 2019 Citizen of the Month. Citizen of the Month is awarded to someone who regularly goes above and beyond to improve their community.

Robert Goller graduated from SUNY Geneseo in 1998 and has been documenting and reporting for Aurora since the fifth grade. He launched the Goller’s Gazette and eventually went on to serve as editor of the East Aurora Advertiser. Goller has been Aurora Village Historian and Aurora Town Historian for 13 years, and has been involved in a number of different community events and traditions. Each year, Robert serves as the Master of Ceremonies for the East Aurora Christmas Carolcade. He is also known for portraying President Millard Fillmore at the Aurora Historical Society’s annual Millard Fillmore Dinner. Some of his awards and additional recognitions include: the Mary and Gill Stott award from the Roycroft for achievement in writing, music, and history, and Buffalo Business First’s 2011 ’40 under 40’ in Western New York.

Legislator Lorigo said, “Rob is not just the Town and Village Historian; he also adds so much to the present and future of the community through his dedication, enthusiasm, and presence at each and every community event. Always with a smile on his face and words of welcoming and kindness, Rob is truly deserving of this award.”

Robert Goller said, “Thank you, Legislator Lorigo, for the very kind words, and the Erie County Legislature for this recognition. Thank you also to my family and the Aurora Town Board for making the surprise announcement of this recognition truly special. It is a high honor and privilege to serve as the Historian and to live and work in this community, where so many people—both past and present—have stepped up to make it a truly special place.”
