Erie County Legislature Minority Leader Joe Lorigo has sent a letter to County Executive Mark Poloncarz and Visit Buffalo Niagara CEO Patrick Kaler requesting a copy of the study reviewing the potential construction of a new convention center. The letter was sent in advance of an Economic Development committee discussion on the convention center study scheduled Thursday, February 13 at the Legislature.

The second and final study regarding a potential new convention center was approved last year and was expected to be released in December 2019. As of January, Visit Buffalo Niagara said the report was in its final review stages. A new or upgraded convention center is expected to cost anywhere from 200 to 300 million dollars.

Legislator Lorigo said, “We are scheduled to have a committee discussion on the latest convention center study this Thursday, but the Legislature has not been given a copy of the report.  It is important that we have the opportunity to review the report and any findings prior to any presentation later this week. The ultimate decision on whether to go forward rests with the Erie County Legislature.  Keeping us in the dark on the newest information is problematic, and puts us at a disadvantage.  I look forward to reviewing any documentation available prior to Thursday’s discussion.”

Thursday’s Economic Development Committee meeting with the county’s consultant on the study is scheduled for 3pm.
