Erie County Legislator John Mills recently presented a proclamation to Eric Stuhr Troop 285 for achieving the rank of Eagle Scout—the highest honor of Boy Scouts of America.

Eric Stuhr has earned 24 merit badges in his journey to becoming an Eagle Scout. Stuhr’s Eagle Scout Project was the restoration of the Eternal Flame Trailhead to benefit the Chestnut Ridge Conservancy. Stuhr was responsible for making the trailhead more accessible as the Eternal Flame is one of the most popular destinations in Chestnut Ridge Park and has been progressively deteriorating. During the project, he oversaw 26 volunteers working over 175 hours as they laid crushed stone over 100 feet of trail, installed six new benches and planted six trees and 13 shrubs.

Aside from his participation in the Boy Scouts of America, Stuhr participated in Orchard Park High School Varsity Volleyball, Math Club, Technology Club and graduated Valedictorian.

Legislator Mills said, “Eric Stuhr is a class act! I am glad I had the opportunity to honor this impressive young man and share a conversation with him about his recent achievements as well as future endeavors. In the Fall, Mr. Stuhr is heading to Georgia Institute of Technology to pursue a computer science degree. Best of luck, Eric, I know you will go on to do great things and have a bright future ahead of you.”
