Erie County Legislator Ed Rath, the Jewish Community Center of Greater Buffalo, and Holocaust Resource Center of Buffalo teamed up to host a celebration of life and presentation in memory of Tibor Baranski Sr., who died in January of this year.

Baranski  saved 3,000 Jewish lives in Hungary during the Holocaust. He was named Righteous Among the Nations, an honor used by the State of Israel to describe non-Jews who risked their lives during the Holocaust to save Jews from Nazi extermination. A Holocaust survivor, who wishes to be identified as Gregg, gave a powerful presentation about being saved by a woman who is also Righteous Among the Nations. At the end of the event, Legislator Rath presented a proclamation to Tibor Baranski’s son, Dr. Peter Forgach.

Legislator Rath said, “I would like to thank Gregg, the JCC, and Holocaust Resource Center for putting together an incredible event. I’d also like to thank Tibor’s family for being in attendance and sharing remarks about their father. Tibor Baranski is a true hero, and it was great to see such a large crowd of people in attendance to hear more about his life and legacy.”

A copy of the proclamation can be found here.
