Erie County Legislator Frank Todaro recently honored Lancaster Police Department Officers Joseph Sobaszek and William Delano, Fire Chief Eric Feldmann and Village of Lancaster resident Thomas McGuire for their heroic actions.

On December 9th, the Lancaster Police Department received a call of a house fire at 35 Wilma Drive in the Village of Lancaster. Officer Joseph Sobaszek arrived on location and learned that a male occupant was inside the burning house. At the time, Village resident Thomas McGuire was out for his walk and able to assist.

Officer Joseph Sobaszek entered the smoke-filled residence and located the injured male at the top of the basement stairway. Crawling under the smoke, Officer Joseph Sobaszek worked with Officer William Delano to get the victim to an outside doorway where Fire Department Chief Eric Feldmann was able to get him quick medical attention.

Legislator Todaro said, “Officers Joseph Sobaszek and William Delano, Fire Chief Eric Feldmann and Lancaster resident Thomas McGuire are heroes in my book. Their quick thinking in a time-sensitive, emergency situation saved the life of a man who was in dire need of help. It puts me at ease knowing we have extremely well-trained and professional first responders to answer the call when someone is in need. I also want to thank Thomas McGuire for jumping in and assisting when he learned a neighbor was in need. This is what community is all about.”
