September's Free Rabies Vaccination Clinics Set

The Erie County Legislature's Majority Caucus announces the fall schedule of free rabies clinics, encouraging pet owners to vaccinate their dogs, cats, and ferrets.

Organized by the Erie County Department of Public Health, in partnership with the Niagara Frontier Veterinary Society, the SPCA serving Erie County, and Medaille Veterinary Technology, the clinics will be held on the following dates:

  • 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 13 at ECC South Campus Building #7, 4041 Southwestern Blvd., Orchard Park
  • 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 20 at ECC North Campus, Noonan Center Maintenance Garage, 6205 Main St., Williamsville
  • 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept., 27 at the West Seneca Highway Garage, 39 South Ave. (off Union Rd. near Route 400), West Seneca

“If your pet is due for a rabies vaccination, please plan to attend one of the county’s free clinics to protect them and our community. The County Health Department recommends the vaccination for both indoor and outdoor pets,” said Majority Leader Joseph Lorigo.

The following requirements must be met in order to receive the rabies vaccination:

  • Pets must be at least 3 months old.
  • Proof of previous rabies vaccination must be provided to receive a three-year certificate; otherwise a one-year certificate will be issued.
  • All dogs, cats and ferrets must be restrained using a leash and/or pet carrier.

The County Health Department reminds residents that if their pets have been exposed to a wild animal, or bitten by a dog or cat, to contact the department at 961-6800. Vaccinations are required according to New York State law.
