Cheektowaga Auto Bureau to holds Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony

Tuesday, October 9, 2012

The “extreme make-over” of the Cheektowaga Auto Bureau is now complete

Erie County, NY – Erie County Clerk Chris Jacobs and several other local County, Town and Village dignitaries will be on hand to cut the ceremonial red ribbon to officially re-open the Cheektowaga Auto Bureau, located at 2122 George Urban Blvd. in the Urbandale Shopping Center. A tour of the newly remodeled facility was available after the event.

“The Cheektowaga Auto Bureau is our busiest office, handling 15,000 transactions a month, equaling 200,000 transactions a year. The Erie County Auto Bureau has been at this location since 1997, and conducted over 3 million transactions over those 15 years”, said Jacobs.

After 4 months of expansive renovations of the over 9,000 square foot space, both inside and out, top-to-bottom, the “extreme make-over” of the Cheektowaga Auto Bureau is now complete. The renovations and expansion, which did not use any taxpayer dollars,  included: new laminate and wood trim counters, interior & exterior painting, an exterior heated vestibule, new window treatments, accounting office carpeting, a new 576 square foot garage for our Mobile Unit, updated signage, parking lot and blacktop improvements, and roof maintenance.

The Clerk’s office examined several options for Cheektowaga Auto Bureau space as the lease expiration approached. That review led to the recommendation that the best alternative for continued service to the Auto Bureau customers during the next five years was to remain at its current location. Clerk Jacobs said, “Urbandale Development Company, owned by the Cipolla Family, and General Contractor Vince Mistretta have been tremendous partners in helping us to make this location a much more pleasant experience for both our customers and the hard-working staff.”

Erie County Clerk Jacobs said he and his team continually look to make the Auto Bureau more efficient and customer friendly. He thanked the public and the staff for their patience and understanding during the upgrading of the office, noting that the Auto Bureau never “Shut-down” and remained open all during the renovation period.  The Clerk Office encourages feedback on everyone’s experience at the Auto Bureau and appreciates all ideas on ways to improve service.

Jacobs added, “All-in-all remaining in Cheektowaga is a win-win situation for everyone involved especially the thousands of customers who have been coming to the Cheektowaga Auto Bureau since we first opened here in 1997, 15 years ago.”

At the newly renovated location, Auto Bureau customers can still apply for or renew their driver’s licenses, obtain non-driver identifications, return license plates.  In addition, they can renew their vehicle registrations, apply for an Enhanced driver’s license and complete many other transactions such as getting an E-ZPass.
