Erie County Clerk Chris Jacobs today announced that his office is hosting a special “Passports on the Move” outreach on Thursday, March 8th, an event designed to assist the public by providing passport information and processing applications.

The event will be held from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Walden Galleria Mall.  The Clerk’s Office will be set up just outside the Apple Store.  Applications will be accepted until 6:45 p.m.

“This is a terrific opportunity for people who have been waiting to get a passport to come out and apply for one,” said Jacobs. “It is hard for people to take off work and come downtown, so we wanted to take this opportunity to better serve our constituents. My office is pleased to make this service available.”

Applicants will be able to apply for a passport card, passport book or both and can expect to receive their passport in approximately four to six weeks for routine service and about two to three weeks for expedited service. Everyone traveling in and out of the United States by air requires a passport. U.S. citizens must present a passport to enter the United States from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Bermuda at land borders and sea ports of entry.

The fee for a passport book is $110 for ages 16 and over, and must be in the form of a personal check or money order. For ages 15 and younger, the fee for regular service is $80. Regardless of age there is a separate execution fee of $25 and can be in the form of check or cash. Passport cards for 16 and older are $30 (check) 15 and under $15 (check).

ATMs are available on site if needed for cash. Applicants will need to bring with them an original or certified copy of their birth certificate, proof of identity such as a current New York State driver’s license or non-driver I.D.,  and one 2x2 photo, which can be made at CVS, Walgreens, or the Clerk’s Office can also take a passport photo on site for a $10 fee.

Passport applications, a list of all required documents and a schedule of fees is available by visiting www.erie.gov/clerk and clicking the Passport icon or by contacting the Erie County Clerk’s Office directly at 716-858-8865.
