County Clerk Program Provides Valuable Savings to Area Veterans

Erie County, NY – Erie County Clerk Chris Jacobs recently held a “Thank-A-Vet” Outreach Program at American Legion Post 362 in East Aurora to issue discount cards to honorably discharged veterans who file their original DD-214 (discharge papers) with the Erie County Clerk’s Office. More than 130 veterans showed up to sign up for the Clerk’s “Thank-A-Vet” Discount Card which can then be used by veterans at 700 participating local businesses who have agreed to honor the card with a discount on purchases or services.

“My office continues our effort to recognize the area’s veterans through this important program,” stated County Clerk Jacobs. “Certainly we want to do our part to honor our veterans and to also encourage them to record their discharge paperwork with the County Clerk’s Office,” he added.

For the veteran, filing discharge or separation papers is free of charge and certified copies of recorded discharges are made, free of charge, for veterans or their immediate families whenever needed. Original discharge papers are proof of military service, and can be used to establish eligibility for a variety of benefits.
