Jacobs to Host Learner Permit Testing Day at Auto Bureau

Friday, April 26, 2013

ERIE COUNTY, NY- Erie County Clerk Chris Jacobs is hosting the first-ever teen driver’s “Learner Permit Testing Day” for high school students who are interested in taking steps to get their driver’s license, while encouraging driver safety and care while operating a motor vehicle. The event will be held at the Erie County Auto Bureau located in the Northtown Plaza-3095 Sheridan Drive on Saturday May 4th, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon.

The Erie County Auto Bureau will be open specifically for high school students looking to acquire their first driver’s permit. “Obtaining a driver’s permit is on the mind of most 16- and 17-year-olds,” said County Clerk Jacobs. “We would like to make this an educational and simple process not only for the student driver, but for their parents as well.”

Representatives from the Sheriff’s Office, Erie County Council-PX20, and the Erie County Health Department will also be on hand to discuss the risks of driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol, as well as the dangers of driving while using electronic devices and some basic rules of the road.

“Not only is this an opportunity for students interested in obtaining a permit to receive personal attention, the driver safety message from the Sheriff’s Office is a valuable one that can never be emphasized enough,” added Clerk Jacobs. “I hope students from all over Erie County are able to take advantage of this event.”

Students interested and ready to obtain a driver’s permit must be sixteen years of age or older and required to bring their original birth certificate, social security card, school ID and their parent(s). The cost for a New York State Learner’s Permit varies between $80 -$95.

Practice tests are available on-line at www.dmv.ny.gov/youngdrivers. Participants are encouraged to visit www.erie.gov/teendriverday for more details and to call the Erie County Clerk’s Office at (716) 858-8866 to reserve their spot in order to take their permit test and receive individualized attention.
