County Clerk wants you to make sure your child is in the right car seat
Erie County, NY- Erie County Clerk Chris Jacobs, in cooperation with Erie County Sheriff Tim Howard, will be offering free car seat safety inspections on Saturday, October 19th from 9 a.m. to noon at the Eastern Hills Mall, 4545 Transit Road in Clarence. The mall is home to an Erie County Auto Bureau satellite office.
The event will be held in the front parking lot of the mall, under the marquee. Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians from the Erie County Sheriff’s Office will be on hand to examine child car seats for proper use, installation, age and size appropriateness and also alert parents to any recalled products.
“A staggering 90% of car seats are being used incorrectly,” said County Clerk Jacobs. “I hope that families take time to attend this important child safety event and learn firsthand how to properly install a car seat from certified professionals and to also have their child’s seat inspected.”
New York State requires that all children must be restrained in an appropriate child restraint system while riding in a motor vehicle, until they reach their 8th birthday. Children under sixteen years of age must also wear a seatbelt when riding in either the front or back seat of any passenger car.
For more information on this event contact the Erie County Clerk’s Office at 858-8866 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org. Additional tips and information on car seat safety can be found on the Clerk’s website at www.erie.gov/clerk.
UPDATE: The first 30 participants having their car seats inspected will also receive Achievement Certificates good towards a free kid’s meal and Welcome Cards for the parents courtesy of the Subway Restaurant located in the Food Court of the mall.
