Effective April 15, 2014: Anyone owning what is considered assault weapons are required to register them through the New York State Police.
The Erie County Piostol Permit Office does not handle the registration of any long guns or assault weapons. However, you can find a link to the registration process below:

Erie County has a large community of Pistol permit holders and is prepared to provide services to both new and existing residents. Feel free to come in and check out our new plastic card permits and find out if it would be more convenient for you.
We appreciate the need for expediency and have made many forms available for you to download so as to ease your registration and general permit needs. New Applicants need to present application paperwork no later than 3:30 p.m in order to be processed.
As per New York State Police Pistol Permit Division, every firearms receipt must include all of the following:
Action (Revolver, Semi-Auto, Single-Shot, Derringer)
The NICS form, along with purchase receipt, must be brought to the Pistol Permit Office in order for the gun to put on buyer’s permit.
IF ALL THE ABOVE INFORMATION IS NOT INCLUDED, YOUR TRANSACTION WILL NOT BE PROCESSED.
