Partnership between the Office of Erie County Comptroller and Buffalo Public School District provides students the opportunity to display artworks in a gallery setting in the Rath Building
(Buffalo) – When Waterfront Elementary school student Jordan Flynn first spotted her artwork on display in the Office of Erie County Comptroller, her eyes lit up and she grinned ear to ear. The third grader’s painting of a fire-breathing dragon is one of 15 original works of art by Buffalo Public Schools (BPS) students that is on display in a gallery-like setting on the 11th floor of Erie County’s Rath Building.
A new partnership between the BPS and Erie County Comptroller’s Office gives students the opportunity to become “future Picasso’s” by having their artistic creations on public display, and provides a more colorful and positive work environment for workers.
“When our students first saw their artwork on display you would have thought the Rath Building was the Albright-Knox Art Gallery. They were so proud to see their artwork in a public setting. This venue gives our art students an opportunity to proudly show their original works,” said Buffalo Public Schools Supervisor of Curriculum in Art Education Michele Agosto.
The Office of Erie County Comptroller recently hosted a “gallery opening reception” for students, their families, and Comptroller’s office staff. Participating BPS art students are:

The BPS student artwork will be on display until June when the current works will be taken out and additional artwork will be brought in. Erie County Comptroller Stefan I. Mychajliw is a proud product of the Buffalo Public School system. He attended Bilingual Center Public School #33 and the Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts.
“I want to thank the incredibly talented students for allowing us to display their wonderful works of art in the Office of Comptroller. Our hard working employees really appreciate how much light it has brought to the office. This partnership with the Buffalo Public School District has really brightened up our office. It gives students a feeling of accomplishment, that someone cares enough about their art to proudly display it,” added Comptroller Mychajliw.
