COMPTROLLER MYCHAJLIW AWARDED ACCOUNTING HONORS FOR FOURTH YEAR IN A ROW

Comptroller Stefan I. Mychajliw continues to earn recognition for “Excellence in Financial Reporting”

(Buffalo, NY) – For the fourth straight year, Erie County Comptroller Stefan Mychajliw won a national award from the Government Finance Officers Association (G.F.O.A.) for producing the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (C.A.F.R.). The “Certificate of Achievement” awarded to the Comptroller is the highest form of recognition for government accounting and financial management.

“We take great pride in the consistency with which my office receives this recognition. The dedicated civil servants here take great pride in their ability to produce such a strong report year in and year out,” said Mychajliw.

The Erie County Comptroller’s Office utilizes principles set forth by the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (“GASB”) and the New York Office of the State Comptroller to prepare the reports. Drescher & Malecki, a certified public accounting firm and the County’s independent auditor, issue “clean” opinions on the financial statements prepared by the County for the year.

“This honor would not be possible without the hard work of my staff and the cooperation of other County departments. I want to thank everyone who assisted in making the report,” said Mychajliw.

The in-depth Comprehensive Annual Financial Report is available for download in PDF format on the Comptroller’s website. Reports are available online going all the way back to 2002.
