Comptroller Mychajliw Updates the "Taxpayer's Checkbook"

Most recent November Storm expenses posted online, including $120,000 for guardrail repairs

(Buffalo, NY) – Erie County Comptroller Stefan I. Mychajliw updated his good government initiative, the “Taxpayer’s Checkbook,” to include most recent expenses related to the November 2014 Storm.  The most recent public posting of how politicians spent taxpayer dollars shows receipts totaling almost $120,000 to repair guardrails across Erie County.  Almost $4,000 was spent fixing a garage door at the Fire Academy located at the Emergency Operations Center in Cheektowaga; while more than $14,000 was spent on plow repair.

“Taxpayers can see more examples of how their hard earned money was spent by the politicians during the November Storm.  I will continue running the government in an open, honest and transparent manner.  People have every right to know how their tax dollars were used.  Our latest public posting includes guardrail and plow repair, mailbox and garage door replacement, and computer related costs to operating the DLAN system,” said Erie County Comptroller Stefan I. Mychajliw.

The cost to repair 63 guardrails posted in the “Taxpayer’s Checkbook” totaled approximately $118,139.37.  Receipts from mid-to-late December 2014 and late January 2015 show the most expensive guardrail to repair was $3,937.89 on Pleasant Avenue in Lakeview.

One guardrail at Casey Road and Youngs Road in East Amherst, where the brunt of the storm did not hit, cost $1,554.24 to repair.  All 63 locations of where guardrails were repaired across Erie County can be seen on the “Taxpayer’s Checkbook” at www.erie.gov.

“Ultimately FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) will have the final say on whether or not these expenses are storm related and will be reimbursed,” added Comptroller Mychajliw.

Two plow blades from an invoice dated February 2nd, 2015 cost taxpayer’s $14,213.60 while an invoice dated January 6th, 2015 titled “Door Repair at Fire Academy” located at the Emergency Operations Center at 3359 Broadway in Cheektowaga cost $3,791.50.  Costs related to the use of the emergency DLAN computer system totaled $32,992.65.  The expense of purchasing 75 mailboxes was $806.25 according to receipts posted on the “Taxpayer’s Checkbook.”
