The Law Enforcement Training Academy will be conducting the Advance Firearms Pre-qual, August 15 - 16 from 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM at the Buffalo Police range at 74 Franklin Street.  Students must successfully fire qualifying scores to continue on to the Firearms Instructor Course.  The Advanced Firearms Courses are included in this announcement along with the sign-up sheet.  If you have questions, contact Steve Padin at 716-961-8846 or by email at padins@ecc.edu Students successful in the Firearms pre-qual will be invited to the Instructor Course (location pending) and will receive certification from the NYS Municipal Police Training Council.

The Firearms Instructor Course class size will be limited to a maximum of 15 students; initially no more than 2 officers from any 1 department will be permitted, however this may be waived to reach 15 qualified participants.  Preference will be given to full time Erie County police agencies.

Students must be I.D.S. Certified and have a minimum 3 years full time employment as a police officer, peace officer, or corrections officer in order to attend and must show proof.

Departments/Students must supply the following equipment for the pre-qual:

  • Department duty weapon*, with 600 Rds. of Total Metal Jacket, lead free ammunition
      • CCI/Spear - CleanFire TMJ Bullet
      • Remington - Remington UMC Leadless
      • Federal - Federal BallistiClean TMJ
      • Other brands are available, be sure the Primer is Lead Free & the bullet is TMJ
  • Body Armor
  • Duty belt and holster / 4 magazines / magazine pouches / eye & ear protection / baseball cap

The Instructor course will be held at the Erie County Sheriff's Range, Genesee Street, Alden, NY

* Duty weapon is the model used by the patrol division of your department.  It is NOT any model you carry if you're in a specialized squad or division.
