Defensive Tactics Instructor Course

Description:

The Defensive Tactics Instructor course will prepare Officers to teach at the Academy or at their own Department.  Topics to be covered are Communication skills, Ground and weapon defenses, pressure points and joint manipulations, impact weapon techniques and disarms, gun and knife defenses.  This is only a partial list.  This is a 2 week, hands on physical course.  Only officers meeting all pre-requisites will be admitted to this course.

Pre-requisites: 

  • General Topics Instructor
  • Current CPR/AED certification card
  • Physicians release form
  • pass PT agility test (Cooper standards 70%) Cooper standard attached
  • PT Test given on June 5th, and June 10th 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM at ECC North Bell Athletic Center

Please Note:

  • Course enrollment will be strictly limited to 16
  • Out of county officers must provide a certificate of residency form.  Please call if you need information and for out of county fee schedule
  • Unless enrollment permits otherwise, agencies are limited to allow equal opportunity to this course

Course Cost:

There is no cost for this course for Erie County Agencies. Out of county agencies should call to see if a fee applies.

Please observe the Academy dress code:

For this course, BDU pants, t-shirts, sweat shirts, gym clothes, duty belt, handcuffs, and red gun, departmental impact device, mouth piece.  NO firearms or OC products permitted.

Parking is available adjacent to BRETSCHGER HALL of Erie Community College North.  Enter the campus from Wherle Drive using Tech Drive.  BRETSCHGER HALL (B-700) is the first building on the left.  The Academy office is in room B-714.
