Enhanced Family Violence Investigations

Description:
This course will address the role of law enforcement and investigative techniques to increase offender accountability for specialized areas that constitute family violence. The topics include:
- Human Trafficking and Cultural Competency: by Tara Huges, Youth Trafficking Coordinator, International Institute of Buffalo and Deputy Sheriff Theresa Nietzel, Erie County Sheriff's Office.
- Introduction to the DV High Risk Team and Law Enforcement Response: by Lynette Reda, Chief, Domestic Violence Unit, Erie County District Attorney's Office and Brandi Sutherland, Sexual Violence Prevention Specialist, Crisis Services Advocate Program.
- Investigative Practice and Proceedures in Elder Abuse Cases: by Gary Ertel, Assistant District Attorney, Erie County District Attorney's Office and Detective Dan Brinkerhoff, Erie County Sheriff's Office.
- How Trauma and Intimidation Affect Case Outcomes: by Tina Pilkey, Director, Domestic Violence Survivor Services, Erie County District Attorney's Office.
- Domestic Violence and Guns, a Deadly Combination: by Rachel Newton, Chief, Felony Trial Bureau, Erie County District Attorney's Office.

This course is recommended for all sworn officers.

- There is no cost for Erie County Police Agencies. Other agencies should call to see if a fee applies.
- Out of county officers must provide a certificate of residency form.
