Ignition Interlock Non-Installer Training

The New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services, Office of Public Safety in conjunction with the Office of Probation and Correctional Alternatives, are pleased to announce that they will be hosting an Ignition Interlock Non-Installer Training course.  This course is a four (4) hour training class scheduled from 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

Participants will:

  • Learn the history of Leandra's Law'
  • Develop an increased awareness of the applicable IID related laws and regulations
  • Receive an overview of IID functionality, including fuel cell technology
  • Learn how to identify an IID restriction on an operator's license and other records
  • Learn how to identify IID tampering/circumvention
  • Learn the importance of educating operators, family members, and the public about the IID restriction
  • Receive statistical information regarding VTL 1192 and 1198 offenses, and receive charging tips related to persons found to be driving in violation of VTL 1198

The training will also review the planning, strategies, operations, and results of the IID Non-Installer Enforcement Pilot Projects which occurred in 2016 and 2017.  Through these lessons learned, DCJS will share a "road map" by which participating jurisdictions can implement collaborative IID Non-Installer Enforcement operations (including probation, police/Sheriff's, and prosecutors) in their own counties.

This four (4) hour training course will be held at the following locations:

  • Warren County - March 7, 2018
  • Westchester County - April 11, 2018
  • Erie County - May 3, 2018
  • Broome County - May 9, 2018
