Grand Jury Indicts Buffalo Man for Murder and Attempted Murder

Erie County District Attorney Frank A. Sedita, III announced that the Erie County Grand Jury has voted an indictment charging 17 year old Damone Lewis of 47 Gibson Street, Buffalo, in the homicide of Jeremy Thomas (of Buffalo) on August 8, 2012 and the attempted murder of Angelica Soto (of Buffalo) on August 30, 2012.

Regarding the homicide of 24 year old Jeremy Thomas, the Grand Jury charged Lewis with Murder in the Second Degree, as well as Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree.  Thomas was shot multiple times on August 8, 2012 on Sumner Street in the City of Buffalo.  Thomas died of his injuries on August 22, 2012.

On August 30, 2012, Damone Lewis shot 15 year old Angelica Soto multiple times while on Wood St. in the City of Buffalo.  The Grand Jury has charged Lewis with Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, Assault in the First Degree, and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree. 

Investigators from the Buffalo Police Department and the United States Marshal’s Service took part in a large scale manhunt for Damone Lewis for several months.  Detective Brendan Kieffer of the Buffalo Police Department and Inv. Kevin Kendall of the New York State Police, both detailed to the United States Marshal’s Service Violent Fugitive Task force, are credited with Lewis’ apprehension on November 5, 2012. 

If convicted of all charges, Lewis faces a maximum combined term of 50 years to life in state prison.  Lewis remains in custody without bail.
