ERIE COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY FRANK A. SEDITA, III announced that 44 year old Mary Anne Riter today pleaded guilty to Falsification of Business Records in the Second Degree before Acting Supreme Court Justice M. William Boller. After a New York State Office of Court Administration audit, the Office of the Erie County District Attorney was requested to investigate whether Riter had committed any crimes while employed as a Town of Orchard Park Court Clerk. An investigation by the Erie County District Attorney’s Office Special Investigations and Prosecutions Bureau revealed that Riter falsified court documents in connection with $5,983 of missing fine and bail monies between January of 2006 and March of 2009. Although Riter denies that she stole these funds, she resigned her position of public trust, has paid full restitution and has waived her right to appeal. The New York State Office of Court Administration was consulted and approved of the guilty plea and its conditions. Riter faces a maximum term of imprisonment of one year when sentenced by Justice Boller on June 22, 2012.
