Acting Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Flaherty, Jr. announces that 16-year-old Alonte Works of 289 Reed Street, Buffalo was sentenced by Erie County Court Judge Kenneth F. Case to ten years to life in prison.

In June, Works pleaded guilty to Murder in the Second Degree.

On October 22, 2015, at approximately 8:15 p.m., while in the parking lot of 50/50 Convenience Store, 441 Fillmore Avenue, Buffalo, NY, the defendant fatally shot 31-year-old Jonathan Jones of Buffalo.

Works who was 15-years-old at the time of the murder, was sentenced as a juvenile offender. 

DA Flaherty commends the Buffalo Police Department Homicide Squad including Lt. Brian Stroebel and Detectives Patricia Wrest and Brendan Kiefer for their thorough investigation of the case. 

Assistant District Attorney Gary W. Hackbush prosecuted the case.
