Buffalo Man Accused of Raping Female Victim in Riverside Apartment

Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 28-year-old Bryam Bassett of Buffalo has been arraigned before Buffalo City Court Judge JaHarr Pridgen on two counts of Rape in the First Degree, Class “B” felonies, one count of Assault in the Second Degree, a Class “D” felony, and one count of Unlawful Imprisonment in the First Degree, a Class “E” felony. The defendant was arraigned on Wednesday, May 8, 2019.

It is alleged that starting on Sunday, May 5, 2019, the defendant engaged in sexual intercourse by forcible compulsion with a female victim inside an apartment in the City of Buffalo. The defendant is also accused of restraining the victim inside the apartment and intentionally causing physical injuries to the victim over the course of two days.

Bassett is scheduled to return on Monday, May 13, 2019 at 9:30 a.m. for a felony hearing. Judge Pridgen set bail at $100,000 cash or bond. The defendant remains held at this time.

If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of 25 years in prison.

As are all persons accused of a crime, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
