Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 20-year-old Caleb Grooms of Buffalo was arraigned this morning before Erie County Court Judge Kenneth Case on an indictment charging him with one count of Murder in the First Degree and one count of Murder in the Second Degree (Class “A-I” felonies).

It is alleged that during the early morning hours of November 9, 2021, the defendant intentionally stabbed the victim inside of a home on Lower East Lane in the City of Buffalo. The defendant allegedly committed the crime during the course of a burglary. The victim, 18-year-old Malcalm Davis, died from his injuries at the scene.

Grooms was held without bail. A return court date has not been scheduled at this time.

If convicted of all charges, Grooms faces a maximum sentence of life in prison.

DA Flynn commends the Detective Raymond Krug and Det. Sgt. Christopher Pliszka of the Buffalo Police Department for their work in this investigation.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Ashley M. Morgan of the Homicide Bureau.

As are all persons accused of a crime, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
