Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 54-year-old Wade Sanders of Buffalo has been sentenced by Erie County Court Judge Kenneth F. Case to 1 2/3-5 years in prison for a hit-and-run crash that killed a pedestrian.

In October, Sanders pleaded guilty to Leaving the Scene of an Incident Resulting in Death.

On May 26, 2017, at approximately 6:39 p.m., 60-year-old Arthur Redrick of Buffalo was attempting to cross Bailey Avenue at Lang Avenue in the City of Buffalo when he was struck and killed by an SUV driven by Sanders. Sanders immediately left the scene without stopping.

With help from Amherst Police, Buffalo Police Accident Investigators located the car a few days later on Fox Street.

When Sanders was later questioned by investigators, he confessed to being the driver of the vehicle that struck and killed Redrick, claiming he did not come forward sooner because he was scared.

DA Flynn commends the work of the Buffalo Police Accident Investigation Unit, including Officer Keith LaFalce, Officer John Petricca and Officer Marie Schreckenberger.

Assistant District Attorney Christopher M. McCarthy of the DA’s Vehicular Crimes Bureau prosecuted the case.
