Acting Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Flaherty, Jr. announces that 58-year-old Leslie May of Buffalo has been sentenced to 2 1/3-7 years in state prison by State Supreme Court Justice Deborah Haendiges on one count of Reckless Endangerment in the First Degree.

On January 26, 2016,  the defendant struck his wife in the head with a gas can and doused her with gasoline with the intent to set her on fire. An upstairs neighbor hearing the commotion and smelling the gas knocked on the door and the defendant fled.

May was taken into custody in February.

Acting DA Flaherty commends the investigative work of Buffalo Police Detective Valerie Stover-Kelly.

Assistant District Attorney Matthew S. Szalkowski prosecuted the case.
