Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 31-year-old Angel DeJesus of Buffalo was virtually arraigned yesterday before Erie County Court Judge Sheila A. DiTullio on an indictment charging him with the following offenses:

  • Two counts of Predatory Sexual Assault Against a Child (Class “A-II” felonies)
  • Two counts of Course of Sexual Conduct Against a Child in the First Degree (Class “B” violent felonies)
  • One count of Rape in the Second Degree (Class “D” violent felony)

It is alleged that between April 1, 2013 and January 3, 2020, the defendant engaged in multiple acts of sexual conduct with two children. The alleged sexual abuse occurred when the victims were less than 13-years-old at a location in the City of Buffalo. It is further alleged that the defendant engaged in sexual intercourse with one of the victims in August 2020.

The defendant fled to Puerto Rico where he was recently located by the U.S. Marshals Service Task Force. After waiving extradition proceedings, the defendant was brought back to Western New York late last week.

DeJesus was remanded without bail. A return court date has not been scheduled at this time.

If convicted on all charges, DeJesus faces a maximum of 25 years to life in prison.

DA Flynn commends Detective Keith Fitzner of the Buffalo Police Department for his work in the investigation. DA Flynn also acknowledges the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners at John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital, victim advocates from the Child Advocacy Center, and the U.S. Marshals Service.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Rebecca L. Schnirel of the Special Victims/Domestic Violence Bureau.

As are all persons accused of a crime, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
