Buffalo Woman Arraigned for Possession of Merchandise Stolen from Looted Store During Blizzard

Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 32-year-old Shamika A. Dean of Buffalo was arraigned on Wednesday morning before Buffalo City Court Judge Peter J. Savage, III on one count of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the Fourth Degree (Class “E” felony).

It is alleged that on Saturday, January 7, 2023, the defendant was found in possession of stolen property, which included sneakers, fitted hats and shorts. The merchandise, valued at more than $1,000, was reported stolen from a store on the 2800 block of Bailey Avenue, which was looted on December 25, 2022.

Dean is scheduled to return on Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. for a felony hearing. She was released on her own recognizance.

If convicted of the charge, Dean faces a maximum sentence of 4 years in prison.

A total of 12 defendants have been arraigned on various charges related to store lootings that occurred during a blizzard last month.

DA Flynn commends the Buffalo Police Department Anti-Looting Task Force for their work in this investigation.

The cases are being prosecuted by Chief Ashley M. Morgan of the Felony Trials Bureau.

As are all persons accused of a crime, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law
