Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 20-year-old Jaylin Wiggins of Buffalo has been sentenced by Erie County Court Judge Michael Pietruszka to an indeterminate sentence of 50 years to life in prison.

During early morning hours of August 4, 2016, Wiggins fired a gun on Maple Street in the City of Buffalo, seriously injuring one person. An hour later, Wiggins fatally shot 22-year-old Laron Watkins of Buffalo on Sherman Street.

A jury found Wiggins guilty of Murder in the Second Degree, Assault in the First Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree on April 24, 2018.

DA Flynn commends the investigative work of the Buffalo Police Homicide Squad, including Detectives Timothy Salamone, Patricia Wrest and Joy Jermain.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Eugene T. Partridge III of the DA’s Homicide Bureau and Assistant District Attorney Danielle Phillips of the DA’s Felony Trials Bureau.
