Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 24-year-old Carlos J. Rosa of Buffalo was sentenced this afternoon before Erie County Court Judge Kenneth Case to a determinate sentence of 7 years in prison followed by 5 years of post-release supervision.

On Wednesday, January 1, 2020, at approximately 2:30 a.m., the defendant assaulted the victim by slashing him across the face with an unknown sharp object outside of a nightclub on Pearl Street in the City of Buffalo. The male victim, who did not know the defendant, suffered a large cut to the side of his face. He was taken to the hospital where he underwent surgery for the injury.

Rosa pleaded guilty to one count of Assault in the Second Degree (Class “D” felony) on October 12, 2021. The defendant pleaded guilty one week before his jury trial was scheduled to begin. At the time of the plea, Judge Case issued an order of protection on behalf of the victim.

DA Flynn commends the Buffalo Police Department for their work in the investigation.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Samantha N. King and David M. Zak of the Felony Trials Bureau.
