Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 54-year-old Monica Lalley of Buffalo was sentenced this morning before Erie County Court Judge Susan Eagan to a one-year conditional discharge. As part of her sentence, the defendant was ordered to perform 100 hours of community service.

The defendant, while working as a report technician for the Buffalo Police Department, fraudulently collected $1,034.00 in overtime pay by intentionally falsifying her own payroll entries between March 23, 2020 and April 30, 2020. She was suspended from her position after the falsified payroll entries were discovered.

Lalley pleaded guilty to one count of Official Misconduct (Class “A” misdemeanor) on June 15, 2022, the day her non-jury trial was scheduled to begin. She also resigned from her position at the police department the same day.

As part of the plea, the defendant signed a Confession of Judgment to pay full restitution. Today, she provided a certified check in the full amount of $1,034.00, which will be mailed to the City of Buffalo.

DA Flynn commends the Buffalo Police Department for their work in the investigation.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Gary M. Ertel of the Public Integrity Unit.
