Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 37-year-old Keenan J. Redmon of Buffalo was sentenced this morning before State Supreme Court Justice Deborah A. Haendiges to three years of probation. The defendant was ordered to wear an ankle monitor device, abide by a curfew on weekdays and remain under house arrest on weekends.

On July 22, 2021, at approximately 11:00 p.m., the defendant subjected the female victim to physical contact by forcibly grabbing the back of her neck. The incident occurred at a restaurant on Hertel Avenue in the City of Buffalo.

On the late evening of August 26, 2021 and into the early morning hours of August 27, 2021, the defendant forced the same female victim into a bathroom and brandished a pistol while threatening the victim. The incident occurred while the defendant was unlawfully inside the victim’s home in the City of Buffalo.

Redmon pleaded guilty, as charged, to one count of Assault in the Third Degree, one count of Menacing in the Second Degree and one count of Criminal Trespass in the Second Degree (Class “A” misdemeanors) on May 24, 2022.

The defendant, a police officer who was off-duty at the time of both incidents, resigned from the Buffalo Police Department on the day of his guilty plea.

Today, Judge Haendiges issued a final order of protection on behalf of the victim, which remains in effect for the next five years.

DA Flynn commends the Buffalo Police Department for their work in these investigations.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Meredith M. Mohun of the Special Victims/Domestic Violence Bureau.

The BE SAFE Domestic Violence Victim Advocacy Program specializes in advocacy within the criminal courts. While staff work within the Erie County District Attorney’s Office, it is a separate and distinct program with six victim advocates available to provide trauma-informed support and resources to anyone impacted by domestic violence. While the program primarily works with victims who are navigating the criminal justice process and rebuilding their lives following the arrest of the offender, you do not need to have a pending criminal case to speak with an advocate and access services.
