Gunman Sentenced for Killing Victim on Halloween in City's Kensington-Bailey Neighborhood

Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 23-year-old Odell Malik Wilkins, also known as “Leek,” of Buffalo was sentenced this morning before Erie County Court Judge Sheila A. DiTullio to 20 years in prison followed by 5 years of post-release supervision.

On Saturday, October 31, 2020, at approximately 11:45 p.m., the defendant shot the victim in the vicinity of Bickford Avenue and Alice Avenue in the City of Buffalo. The victim, 22-year-old Patrick C. Kent, died from his injuries.

Wilkins pleaded guilty to one count of Manslaughter in the First Degree (Class “B” violent felony) on October 11, 2022.

DA Flynn commends Detective Christopher Pliszka and Detective Raymond Krug of the Buffalo Police Department for their work in the investigation.

The case was prosecuted by Chief Gary W. Hackbush of the Homicide Bureau and Assistant District Attorney Rachel Kranitz McPhee of the Special Victims/Domestic Violence Bureau.
