Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 31-year-old Brigid M. Buseman, also known as Brigid McKirchy, of Clarence pleaded guilty this afternoon before Erie County Court Judge Susan Eagan to one count of Grand Larceny in the Third Degree (Class “D” felony). The defendant pleaded guilty to the only charge in the indictment against her after two witnesses testified in the jury trial that began earlier today.

The defendant, while working as a home health aide, falsified personal checks that she obtained for payment from a 94-year-old client in the Town of Amherst between February 7, 2019 and September 24, 2019. A comparison between timecard records and cashed checks revealed that the defendant fraudulently obtained $35,300.00 in excess pay from the victim.

Buseman faces a maximum of 7 years in prison when she is sentenced on Friday, June 10, 2022 at 9:30 a.m. She continues to remain released on her own recognizance.

DA Flynn commends the Amherst Police Department for their work in the investigation.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Brian P. Dassero of the Special Investigations and Prosecutions Unit and Assistant District Attorney Denise A. Herman of the Felony Trials Bureau.
