Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 35-year-old Yuriy Bruks of Cheektowaga has been arraigned before Erie County Court Judge Susan Eagan on one count of Murder in the Second Degree, a Class “A-1” felony.

It is alleged that on Sunday, August 4, 2019, at approximately 3 a.m., the defendant assaulted his wife, 34-year-old Tetiana Bruks, at their home on Raymond Avenue in the Town of Cheektowaga. The victim died from blunt force trauma.

Bruks is being held without bail. A return court date has not been scheduled at this time.

DA Flynn commends Lieutenant Ken Rusin and Detective Terrence Griffin of the Cheektowaga Police Department for their work in the investigation. He also commends Jim Bona and the U.S. Marshals Task Force for their work in locating and apprehending the defendant in Mexico.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Christine Garvey of the DA’s Homicide Bureau.

As are all persons accused of a crime, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
