Lakeview Man Sentenced to the Maximum for DWI

Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 33 year-old Matthew Thomas of Lakeview was sentenced to the maximum, 2 1/3 to 7 years in prison, after pleading guilty to Felony DWI and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle in the First Degree.  His sentence will run consecutive to the Violation of Probation to which he also admitted.

On November 3, 2017 Town of Evans patrol was dispatched to Erie Road at South Creek Road to respond to a motor vehicle accident.  The vehicle driven by the defendant rear-ended another vehicle causing serious injury to the driver. Blood taken from the defendant at Lakeshore Hospital showed a BAC of .24.

DA Flynn commends Evans Police Officers Michael Kauzala and Ralph Maslach for their work on the case.

Assistant District Attorneys Rachel Kranitz McPhee of the Vehicular Crimes Bureau and Suzanne Garvey of the Felony Trials Bureau prosecuted the case.
