Mother Pleads Guilty for Stabbing Child in Purdy Street Home

Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 33-year-old Zakiyyah M. Wolfford of Buffalo pleaded guilty before State Supreme Court Justice Christopher J. Burns to one count of Attempted Assault in the Second Degree, a Class “E” felony.

On October 9, 2019, at approximately 8:00 a.m., the defendant stabbed her 6-year old child in their apartment on Purdy Street in the City of Buffalo. Police responded to the home after being called by a neighbor. Officers found the defendant on the porch with self-inflicted stab wounds.

The child was taken to Oishei Children’s Hospital to be treated for injuries to his chest, abdomen, and arms. Wolfford was taken to ECMC.

Wolfford faces a maximum of 4 years in prison when she is sentenced on Tuesday, May 5, 2020 at 9:30 a.m. The defendant remains released on bond.

DA Flynn commends the Buffalo Police Department for their work in the investigation.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Rebecca L. Schnirel of the DA’s Special Victims Bureau.
